OFFICIAL: Real Madrid Present Jose Mourinho As New Coach

The 'Special One' will coach Los Merengues for the next four years for a reported €10 million a season.

Real Madrid have officially unveiled Jose Mourinho as their new coach following a presentation in the Santiago Bernabeu press room on Monday afternoon.

Just a little over a week after winning the Champions League with Inter at the Bernabeu, Mourinho will succeed Manuel Pellegrini at the Blancos coaching hot-seat after Madrid successfully negotiated his exit from the Nerazzurri last Friday.

Accompanied and introduced by Madrid director-general Jorge Valdano, Mourinho began by admitting that he has forgotten most of the Spanish that he picked up while he was at Barcelona, but vowed to be able to address the media in fluent Spanish once the pre-season starts.

“I don’t know whether I was born to coach Real Madrid, but I was certainly born to be a coach. I’d like challenges, and this is a challenge for me. I was attracted to the great history and tradition that Madrid have, but also for their frustrations in recent years to win titles. Madrid are a unique club, and to not be able to train Madrid would’ve been a void in my career.

“Luckily I have had a good career so far and it gives me great pride to be able to coach Real Madrid.

“I have a winning attitude and Madrid should always have great players and great coaches. I want my players to have the same winning mentality. That is my motivation, to have my players share the same attitude.”

Mourinho will be Los Merengues’ 11th coach in just over seven years, but the ‘Special One’ is not worried about suffering the same fate as his predecessors did.

“I think every coach needs to be prepared for any challenge, but if a coach is scared of something, scared of being sacked, then things are not working well,” he explained.

“There will always be great difficulties. But I have confidence in myself. I believe in my abilities. I never think about leaving or being sack. I have a four-year contract, more than enough to win trophies, create a new identity, and prepare a good team for the present and for the future.

“I’m looking forward to getting to work, I have confidence in myself and in my players and I hope that my new team will have the same conviction in me.

“I like to thank everyone at Madrid, to Florentino Perez, Valdano, to the board for thinking I’m the ideal candidate for the project... to build a winning team.

“I am who i am. I am Jose Mourinho and I will not change. I’m here at real Madrid and I come with all my qualities and flaws.”

On converting Madrid to a winning side:

“I’m going to try and make reality what I envision for this club. The best thing to do is to have confidence in the team and if you can do that, you can achieve your objectives... along with hard work.

“There will also be a need to change some things in accordance to the way I work. The players will have to adapt to the way I think and train.

“I’m just a coach here at Real Madrid, nothing more. I’ve always said that it’s vital to have quality people working with me at all levels. In order to be a good coach you need good people working with you and I always want to have the best working with me.”

On his biggest challenge and his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo:

“It’s too early to talk about changes. I need time to analyze the situation... ask a lot of questions, wait for answers, work for the information, and realize where I am and realize the direction of my work.

“As for Ronaldo, I understand that he is an incredibly important player not just for Real Madrid, but for football. But the strength of my team will always be the team, not individuals. Players must understand the most important thing is the club, not the player or the coach.

“If we all work as a group, it will be easier to get results. Cristiano is a winner and if he likes to win, it won’t be difficult to tell him that the most important thing is the club, not the individual.”

On being the best:

“No, I don’t consider myself to be the best. There are several coaches who can be considered the best. At the end of the day, the result at the end of the season is what counts. I had a fantastic season, I won every trophy possible, but that comes down to the team.”

After meeting with Florentino Perez and several members of the board, Mourinho formally signed his four-year contract.

He then had a brief conversation with the club's Honorary President Alfredo di Stefano, before being presented with the pen that he used to ink his contract, a replica of the Santiago Bernabeu, a gold watch, and the Madrid jersey with "Mourinho" and "No. 1" on the back.

With contract talks resolved, Mourinho is set to head Los Blancos...

Inter's and Real Madrid's offical website have both confirmed that Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has resolved the impasse between Inter and Jose Mourinho over the fee to rescind the Special One's contract.

Talks appeared to have reached a halt when Inter president Massimo Moratti insisted that the Portuguese coach pay the €16 million required to liberate him from the Italian club. However, according to reports in Spain, Perez was able to negotiate an €8 million fee that effectively will allow Mou to sign for Madrid for the next four seasons.

According to Inter's website, however, club chief Massimo Moratti insisted that the Spanish giants will pay the €16 million in full: €10m upfront and the other €6m in other forms of installments, including potential player purchases.

Mourinho is scheduled to be presented as the new Blanco coach this Monday at 13:00 CET at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

No Agreement After Meeting Regarding Jose Mourinho's Inter Departure

The case of 'The Special One' remains open for the time being...

After a high-powered meeting involving Inter and Real Madrid representatives, the two parties remain deadlocked regarding coach Jose Mourinho's contract situation with the Italian club, according to Sky Sport 24.

After winning a historic treble with the Nerazzurri, both Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid have announced that the Portuguese tactician will be taking over at the Santiago Bernabeu next seaon - but first he must release himself from his contract with the Serie A giants.

The meeting, which featured Inter director Marco Branca, Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes and Real Madrid vice-president Jose Angel Sanchez, came to a conclusion without a solution that would satisfy all parties. The biggest obstacle seems to be the coach's €16 million buy-out clause which Madrid nor Mourinho want to pay.

The former Chelsea boss' contract currently runs until 2012.

"We will discuss more later, I will return," Mendes said upon leaving the meeting.

The countdown to Mourinho joining Real Madrid has started and an official deal could arrive within the next 48 hours...

Jose Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes is speaking to Real Madrid chiefs at the Bernabeu as he tries to iron out the finer details that will secure the coach's move to the club from Inter.

Marca, AS and Sky Sport 24 all report Mendes as being present in a high-powered meeting at the Bernabeu offices in which he is trying to prepare a three-year deal worth €10 million per annum for his client.

And, as Mendes brings out his convincers and a contract in Madrid, Mourinho is in Milan where he is expected to meet Nerazzurri chief Massimo Moratti today so they can work on his contract rescission.

That is worth a reported €7m, but it is unknown as to whether it will be Real Madrid or Mourinho himself who pays for it. There have also been reports that the rescission could be waved by Inter due to Saturday's Champions League success.

The feeling from both Madrid and Milan is that an official announcement could come as early as Wednesday. Tuesday will be a day reserved for further negotiations if both clubs and coach need extra room to manoeuvre.

Earlier, Mourinho told Marca he is "capable of winning the Champions League with Real".

The Portuguese has been heavily linked in the media with a return to the Bernabeu as coach of Real Madrid.

The speculation about his future should not detract from a classic Inter performance, the Nerazzurri absorbing large doses of Bayern possession and scoring the decisive goals on the break.

Robben unleashed a curling 25-yard effort that was not too far from the top corner at the end of the first period and Inter were almost caught napping within 30 seconds of the re-start but Julio Cesar made a fine save with his legs to deny Thomas Mueller who was stretching but should have done better after picking up Olic's pass.

But Inter went straight up the other end and Milito cut back to Goran Pandev whose curling shot was destined for the top corner only for the flying Butt to push it over.

Louis van Gaal seemed to instruct Bayern to increase the tempo in the second-half and Mueller's goal bound shot was headed away by Esteban Cambiasso before another delicious curling effort from Robben destined for the top corner was acrobatically tipped over by Cesar at full stretch.
But the second goal vanquished Bayern's hopes of their own treble as Inter lifted their first European trophy in 12 years.

Despite a positive season with Real Madrid under Manuel Pellegrini, Rafael van der Vaart could yet leave La Liga for the Premier League if the latest reports are to be believed.

Van der Vaart was strongly linked with an exit last summer but eventually remained with los Blancos, and a string of strong performances have raised his market value again.

AS now believes that Manchester United are willing to stump up €23 million for the Dutchman, who is highly rated by manager Sir Alex Ferguson. It is not the first time that the former Hamburg midfielder has been linked with the Premier League, as Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest in the past.

1) Shut Down Wesley Sneijder

Of Inter’s eight goals in the knockout rounds, Sneijder has played a part in five. In the two group stage matches he missed with injury, Inter lost 2-0 to Barcelona and drew 1-1 with Rubin Kazan. Needless to say, Wesley Sneijder is Inter’s primary attacking threat. Mark him out of the game, and striker Diego Milito will be as lonely at the Bernabeu as he was at Camp Nou a month ago.

The responsibility of covering Sneijder will be shared between holding midfielders Mark van Bommel and Bastian Schweinsteiger, who will also have their hands full orchestrating the Bayern attack. The duo neutralised Juventus playmaker Diego, but the well-supported Sneijder is likely to prove a more difficult threat.

2) Move Holger Badstuber To Central Defence; Start Diego Contento At Left-Back

Holger Badstuber may not be the most gifted defender in the world (one needs only to look back at his performance against Manchester United for proof), but Martin Demichelis and Daniel van Buyten are accidents waiting to happen. A natural central defender, Badstuber will offer much-needed consistency in the heart of defence, allowing Diego Contento to fill in at left-back. The 19-year-old fullback is rather slight in stature, but has an uncanny knack for winning the ball and is very skilled going forward.

To beat Inter, Bayern will have to use the element of surprise. That means utilising multiple players on both flanks in the attacking build-up. With that in mind, Contento - not Badstuber - is the man most capable of playing as Philipp Lahm’s left-sided counterpart.

3) Deploy Arjen Robben, Thomas Mueller & Ivica Olic As Free Attackers

With Franck Ribery suspended and Hamit Altintop his most probable deputy on the left flank, Bayern appear sure to attack through right-sided players Arjen Robben and Philipp Lahm. A similar strategy failed for Barcelona, and it is unlikely that Bayern will have more success should they use the same game plan. If Louis van Gaal allows his 4-4-2 formation to morph into a 4-3-3, Bayern may surprise the Inter defence enough to create some space. 4) Concentrate

It may seem like ages ago that Bayern nearly threw away their Champions League hopes against Manchester United, but in reality, it hasn’t been all that long. In the first leg, Demichelis made two howlers within the first minute as United went a goal ahead. After that error, Badstuber and goalkeeper Hans-Joerg Butt committed even more shambolic errors as Bayern went 3-0 behind at Old Trafford. The Bavarians’ defence looked much more stable against Lyon, but then again, the French side applied very little pressure over the two legs. Inter, by contrast, will. All it takes is an instant of lost concentration and the game may be decided. Needless to say, Bayern cannot afford to make the same mistakes they made earlier in the tournament.

5) Teamgeist

The one reason Bayern have advanced to the final, which is by far their greatest asset, is teamgeist, or “team spirit.” Their passion, desire and utmost faith in coach Louis van Gaal makes the German champions an exceptionally difficult team to beat. Even after conceding first against Juventus, Fiorentina and Manchester United, Bayern remained composed, stuck to their game plan, and got the results they needed. If they fall behind Inter, Bayern will be faced with an even tougher task than before. But as the cliché goes, never count out the Germans.

French midfielder Franck Ribery will put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at Bayern Munich for another five seasons, thus ending seemingly ceaseless speculation about his future, according to German publication Bild.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder, who will sit out the UEFA Champions League final against Inter at the Bernabeu due to suspension, will instead put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him become the highest earner in the clubs history with an annual salary believed to be in the region of €10 million.

Ribery had been linked with a move to a number of Europe's top clubs this season, most notably Real Madrid in Spain and English Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester United. Reports from Spain earlier this year even went as far as suggesting that Ribery's agent, Alain Migliaccio had agreed terms with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez but those claims now appear well wide of the mark.

It is understood that Ribery's representatives Migliaccio and Jean-Pierre Bernes met with a Bayern contingent, that included Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, on Thursday at the team hotel in Madrid to thrash out the terms of the new deal.

The saga regarding the future of the Spain international has reached boiling point in recent days, with an exit from the Emirates seemingly becoming more likely by the day.
